Rakeback -
Get your cut of the house commision back!

When
you first start playing online poker, you keep hearing about rakeback.
Rakeback can be the factor to tip the scales in your favor when you've
had a miserable month at the poker tables and bring you out of the red.
There many players who are actually living from their rakeback and not
from their winnings.
What is "rake"?
The scaled commission fee that each card room or casino takes when
operating a poker cash game. Both online and live casinos operate in
this manner. In a tournament, the rake is taken from the fee paid to
take part in the tournament. Most casinos take between 3% and 5% from
the pot. However in a tournament, the rake is determined by the size of
the tournament BuyIn, most casinos keep about 10%. For example, if a
Sit&Go tournament cost $11, then $10 go to the prize pool and
$1 goes to the provider. Therefore you often read in the tournament
lobby $10+$1, $33+$3, etc, the +number is always what the house takes.
In a live casino, the amount withheld from the prize pool is often more
going for drinks or food provided. For example, many casino tournaments
have a $35 BuyIn, where only $25 lands in the prize pool and the casino
takes the remaining $10 (going towards the rake, 1 free drink and a
snack in the break).
What is "rakeback"?
Rakeback is the system, where you get a predetermined percentage of the
house take back in cash at the end of the month. This percentage
differs according to poker room, playing volume and rakeback provider,
but are typically start at 10% and can go up to 80%. For the poker room
providers, the rakeback system is from their worst nightmare. They hate
it and very few advertise their rakeback policy. Last year PartyPoker
even banned their partners from advertising rakeback.
Is rakeback worthwhile?
Yes, rakeback is definitely worthwhile. Even when the percentage on a
single pot seems to be quite tiny, the volume and number of hands
played is what makes the system so interesting for the players. At a
6-max cash game table, between 60 - 90 hands are played per hour. The
typical online poker player is playing between 4 and 6 tables
simultaneously. The players who are living only from rakeback are
playing 24 and more tables. The large number of played pots adds up
very quickly and to big payouts. Depending on the limit played, you can
be earning 5 figure amounts in a month just from rakeback.
Here is an example of a typical rakeback grinder: time frame of 1 year,
NL Texas Holdem with blinds of $.50/$1 at 6-max tables:

What
you first notice, is the amazing number of hands played - over 1.1
million hands were played- just on Pokerstars, the player also has
still active accounts at least two other poker rooms. That means, he is
playing on average over 3000 hands per day.
The second thing is the low BB/100 value of 0.65. This value is the
winning rate in Big Blinds per 100 played hands. A normal value for a
winning player in this limit is between 2 and 4 big bets/100 hands. You
can see that our player here is not that good at poker theory,
otherwise his winrate would be much higher.
Our example player won only 65 cents after 100 hands played. That
corresponds to a yearly win of $7592.
The small win rate is due to the fact that our player is playing 20
tables of ABC poker without much analysis of single hands being played.
However at the end of the year, he has a total winnings of over
$32,000. Almost 80% of this ($25,525) is due to his
rakeback.
You can see that you don't necessarily need to be one of the best poker
players in the world to be able to live from it, sometimes just the
sheer number of hands played will be enough to provide a nice living.
How do I get rakeback?
Since the poker rooms seldom offer their players directly rakeback, the
rakeback providers are often middle men. The rakeback providers bring
large numbers of players to the poker rooms and are therefore able to
negotiate special deals with the poker room providers. Here at
