Anyone can win a
$500,000 Poker Tournament, even an 8 year old
The (un)fortunate eight year old boy won 22,912,500.38 Indian
Rupees, approx $500,000 in an online Poker Tournament. The problem
seems to be the poker site, who hosted the tournament. They
are disputing the win and is refusing to pay him his winnings! They,
which aren't to be named, states that the boy was playing illegally and
therefore not entitled to his payout. He was at the time, playing under
his uncles details, which was lawfully registered and no where does it
state that this is not allowed according to the family lawyer. If the
family wins the court case, it will be truly a new family of Slumdog
Millionaires. Winning in court and being awarded the $500,000 even
after taxes is a big difference from the average salary in India of
$1740.
The 8 year old, Aashish Nanak, is a computer genius and his
family says he is a natural poker player. He started playing on the
computer at the tender age of 3, when his mother would place him there
to keep him quiet when she cleaned at the hotel where she worked.
Mr. Nanak said, 'He has always loved the
internet and computers
he started his own web pages when he was only four years old, he is a
very clever boy” Aashish has been playing online poker since he was
six, but had been using computers since age three. He was introduced to
the internet when his mother who cleans at a local hotel, had sat him
in front of a cartoon playing on a computer screen to keep him quiet.'
