onlinepokercash.info | Vanessa Selbst Takes Home $750,000

Vanessa Selbst was the first winner of the NAPT Mogegan Sun Main Event,
dominating the final table, the last 8 in the competition of 715
entries and taking home
$750,000. In 2008, Vanessa won a WSOP bracelet
and had live tournament winnings close to a $1 million. However in
2009, she left the tournament circuit to attend Yale Law School. The
chance to attend the new PokerStars.net
North American Poker Tour
stop at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT on her new turf was
the perfect chance to return to the tables.
“I made one big mistake yesterday, but other than that I think
I made
all the right decisions,” Selbst commented. “I attribute that to having
fun
with the game again. I didn’t think it was my tournament, but I knew if
I got the cards no one could stop me.”
Selbst, known online as "fslexcduck", played an agressive and active
game, was the last three days of the tournament with the chiplead, only
losing the spot to Mike Beasley
on the last
hand of Day 4, who later came in second place. The final table, which
was televised, was one of the toughest of the year, including WSOP
bracelet winners Scott Seiver, Cliff
"JohnnyBax" Josephy and Derek Raymond as
well as Jonathan Aguiar,
Michael Woods
and Alistar Melville.
Jonathan Aguiar,
also known as "FatalError", was the first to stand up and go, taking
home $60,244 in 8th place. He moved in from small blind with A Q . after a raise from Beasley and a
reraise from Woods. Woods called, holding T T . The board came 8 3 2 4 T and he was out. He is one player to
keep your eyes on, with 8th place here, with a 42nd place finish at the
PCA and a 22nd place finish at the NAPT Venetian, he is the only player
who has cashed in all three NAPT events this year.
Next to go, was Cliff
"JohnnyBax" Josephy after losing a key pot to Raymond.
Raymond who had opened for a raise with 6 6 , was moved in on by Josephy from the
big blind holding A Q . The board came 5 J T 3 7 and Josephy was left crippled. They
met again a few hands later, when Josephy went all in with A 5 and Raymond was there with A 9 . Raymond's higher kicker won him
another round and kicked Josephy off the table in 7th place and $85,000.
However his knock-out didn't help him when he then tangled with Selbst.
He raised to 395,000 after she limped in and called with A T after Selbst reraised with 6 6 . The board came Q K 7 8 4 and Raymond went home
$115,000 up in 6th place and Selbst was left with nearly half of the
chips in play.
Beasley opened for 225,000 on the button and Alistar Melville,
a Canadian amateur, moved in over the top from the
big blind for 1.025 million. Melville was looking good with Q Q and was looking to hold against
Beasley’s A Q . The
flop hit A 4 3 and Melville was down. The turn and
river came 6 3 and Melville was left in 5th place,
taking home his largest to date winnings of $150,000, pretty good for
someone whose previous live tournament wins run at $6000.
Scott Siever played the whole day on a
short stack and was hungry for more chips. He went all-in preflop four
times during the day and never got a call. However, his next would be
the last. He moved all-in with 4 4 after Woods raised, who then called
holding A 3 . It flopped A T 6 ,. then the Q 7 sealed the fate of Siever, who went
home with $190,000 in fourth place. The win brought his total live
tournament cashes to just over $2 million, just three days before his
25th birthday.
Michael Woods, an amateur from Cana, Virginia elminated both
Aguiar and Siever, but lady luck left his side in a hand with Selbst.
Woods raised from the button with T 9 and Selbst in the big blind called
with 8 8 . The flop came 8 6 9 and Selbst check-raised 1.8 million
to Woods, who then went all-in. Wood's draw didn't hit and he was
eleminated in third place for $240,000, the best finish of his
career.
Selbst and Mike
Beasley went heads-up with Selbst having 18.8 million to
Beasley's 2.755 million. It only took seven hands to end the
tournament. In the last hand, she open raised 200,000 with A 8 and Beasley moved all-in with Q T . The board came 3 6 K 7 8 to send the strip-club owner back to
Hollywood, Florida in 2nd place with $428,000 and more than $300,000 in
other tournament winnings and Selbst went home with the largest score
of her career after dominating the event.
“It was a good finish, but disappointing. I played well for
the last
five days,” Beasley said. “Starting today I wanted to win, but things
went more Vanessa’s way. She’s a great player. I give her all the
credit in the world.”
